Tickets for pedestrian texters

Police in Fort Lee, New Jersey, are fining pedestrians for texting while walking in the public streets and footpaths, writes Brian Byrne.

The fine is $85, and 117 'tickets' have been issued in the last month.

Police say they brought in the penalty because distracted pedestrians are a danger to themselves and others.

Some 20 pedestrians have been hit by cars in the city this year already.
