Ford Ireland will offer the 1.0 EcoBoost petrol engine in its C-MAX and Grand C-MAX cars starting in October this year.
Customers will have the option of either the 100 PS or the 125 PS versions of the 1.0 EcoBoost which was recently named the 2012 'International Engine of the Year'.
The C-MAX 1.0 EcoBoost is expected to deliver 5.1 L/100km (55.4mpg) and 117 g/km C02 across both power outputs, while the Grand C-MAX should achieve 5.2 L/100km (54.3 mpg) and 119 g/km C02.
The three-cylinder 1.0 EcoBoost petrol engine uses turbocharging, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust to deliver the power of a larger engine with the fuel efficiency of a smaller unit.
This engine is already proving popular on the new Focus with more than 4,700 units sold across Europe in its first full month on sale.
All Ford C-MAX and Grand C-MAX models for Europe are produced in Ford's Valencia manufacturing facility in Spain.
