The seventh-generation of Volkswagen's iconic Golf will arrive here this December, in time for the January 2013 sales.
Over 29 million Golfs have been sold worldwide and here in Ireland, the Golf is Volkswagen's best-selling model.
The new Golf is safer, more comfortable and spacious than the previous model, is up to 100 kg lighter and - in the case of the new 140bhp petrol engine that has a combined fuel consumption of 4.8 L/100km - it is up to 23 per cent more fuel efficient.
Everything has been redesigned from the body and powertrain to the interior, as well as all information and entertainment systems, and the car's many new assistance systems.
The new Golf is longer, wider and lower than its predecessor and has a longer wheelbase. The front wheels are further forward to improve interior space. The boot is 30 litres larger at 380 litres with a low sill to make loading less effort.
New engines offer a power range from 85bhp to 150bhp. All engine versions come with a standard stop/start system and battery regeneration, which contribute towards better fuel economy. The common rail diesel engine with 105bhp is expected to be the biggest-seller in Ireland. It sips 3.8 litres of fuel per 100km, equivalent to C02 emissions of 99g/km.
Trim levels will be Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. Specification and pricing for the new model will be released closer to the on-sale date.
