New Transits get cars styling

Ford's new Transit Custom arrives in November in Ireland bringing to the medium and large van market operator areas based on the design in the company's passenger cars, writes Brian Byrne.

The exterior styling also reflects that of the cars, with the grille design based on the 'face' of Ford now familiar on vehicles such as the Focus and Fiesta ... and the upcoming new Mondeo.

Driver assistance technologies shared with Ford’s latest passenger cars include the Ford SYNC voice-activated, in-car connectivity system and the Emergency Assistance feature, Lane Keeping Alert, Driver Alert, Auto High Beam, and a rear-view camera system.

The Transit Custom will be powered by 2.2 diesel engines with three power options, and the company says the fuel consumption has been improved by 8 percent over the current equivalent Transits.
