VW shows Amarok, Caddy derivatives
Volkswagen is launching two new derivatives of key commercial vehicles at the Hannover Commercial Vehicle show today, the Amarok Canyon and the Cross Caddy, writes Brian Byrne.
Shown first at an exclusive pre-show event last night, the Canyon version of the company's high-selling pickup has special detailing including roof-mounted extra headlights for night offroad work, a roller lid for the load bed, and a number of dedicated design cues.
Head of VW's Commercial Vehicles & Trucks division Dr Eckhard Sholz said the Canyon also marks the beginning of building Amaroks in Hannover—the vehicle was previously imported from South America.
The Cross Caddy will be joining the Caddy range in the spring of next year. It comes with a number of Cross themes to provide a lifestyle car from the best-selling compact van lineup, including skid plates, special seats, exclusive wheels and privacy glass.
It has a higher chassis clearance and will be available with 4-Motion AWD capability. Engine outputs range from 86-170hp.
Volkswagen has been making vehicles at Hannover for over 60 years, and is showing some 63 variants of its commercial range at Hannover this year.
