Frugal Ford van in January

Ford will introduce a very frugal version of its new Transit Custom van range in January which will offer a fuel economy equivalent of more than 47mpg, writes Brian Byrne.

The 1-tonne Transit Custom ECOnetic will offer economy and emissions improvements of up to 8 percent better than the current van range's equivalent, with the help of technologies that include Acceleration Control, standard Auto-Start-Stop, and switchable speed limiter.

The vehicle is powered by a 100hp version of Ford's 2.2 Duratorq diesel engine. The Transit Custom has been awarded the 'International Van of the Year 2013' title, and is in contention for the Continental Irish Van of the Year 2013 organised by the irish Motoring Writers Association.
