Today, Toyota delivered its 500,000th full hybrid vehicle in Europe, a silver Yaris Hybrid produced in Valenciennes, France, to Pierre Schilder during a short handover ceremony at a dealership near Paris.
The 375,000 Toyota and 125,000 Lexus full hybrid vehicles sold to date show hybrid technology is now a mainstream proposition for European customers.
Ever since the pioneering Prius was launched in Europe back in 2000, sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles have consistently grown, and today represent around 15 percent of Toyota's total sales volume. Sales of Toyota and Lexus full hybrids this year alone will reach more than 1.2 million worldwide.
Toyota plans to introduce 21 more hybrid models globally by 2015.
