Party Rio Style in Madeira

The Madeira Carnival, which takes place from 6-13 February 2013, embodies the fun-filled spirit of the Rio Carnival and is one of the biggest street parties in Europe.

Festivities begin on Saturday with a grand parade through Funchal, featuring the island's best samba bands and troupes, dancing through the streets in dazzling costumes. The party continues throughout the weekend and concludes on Shrove Tuesday with the fantastic Trapalhao parade, during which the streets are full of locals in outlandish costumes.
