BMW leads premium in 2012

After a record 2012 during which it produced 1.85m vehicles, BMW says it is looking forward to further improved sales in 2013, writes Brian Byrne.

Last year's performance represented an 11 percent increase over 2012, and was led by strong demand for 1-Series and 3-Series car, both of which were renewed over the past 18 months. The smaller car sold 226,829 units, while the 3 Series sold 406,752 copies.

BMW is the biggest selling premium brand, followed by Audi and Mercedes-Benz, both of which also posted record sales in 2012.
