Wagon Civic coming

A planned Honda Civic wagon could be responsible for a fifth of all sales of the model in Europe, writes Brian Byrne.

That's Honda's expectation of the variant which will be shown at the Geneva show in March, and will launch in some markets on this side of the world in the autumn.

The recent arrival of the 1.6 diesel in the Civic will probably make the wagon a very attractive proposition in many European markets.

Wagon versions of the Kia cee'd and Hyundai i30 have proven to be very successful variants of those compact family segment cars, and the Civic wagon will likely have a similar attraction. Toyota also showed a wagon version concept of its Auris at the Paris show last September.

While estate versions of cars sold in Ireland have for decades been a minority element in most brands, the Kia and Hyundai cars have broken that trend in the last few years.
