No Nonsense, the low cost car insurance company, has today launched SmartDriver technology aimed at cutting out 'the nonsense' in the car insurance market by offering cash back based on individual driver behaviour, writes Trish Whelan.
The company claim that this technology, now being offered by over 60 percent of UK car insurance firms, will transform the way in which car insurance premiums are determined and works on the basis of rewarding safe drivers for their behaviour on the roads.
The technology will use an in-car telematics device to measure driver behaviour. It follows the EU Courts banning insurance discounts based on gender and will be seen by many younger women as a way to avoid the significant increase in premiums, getting cash back of up to 30 percent.
A study involving 1,000 drivers, conducted to mark the launch of the new SmartDriver, found that 61 percent of men believed they were safer drivers than women, with 82 percent of women drivers disagreeing. Some 75 percent of men welcomed the new EU law which prevents use of gender on setting insurance premiums, and 73 percent of women disagreed with it.
