Toyota and Lexus sales in Europe increased by 2 percent in 2012 despite a sharp decline in overall car sales in the region, writes Brian Byrne.
The company also slightly increased market share to 4.5 percent (from 4.2 percent the year before).
Toyota Motors Europe attributes the good performance to strong growth of the Camry in Russian, a 27 percent increase in Yaris sales largely because of the new Yaris hybrid, and good Lexus sales on the back of the CT200h (above).
Overall hybrid sales increased to more than 100,000 vehicles, the first time this milestone was reached.
The company expects further growth in 2013 despite what it sees as a 'challenging' year ahead.
