The latest figures of European car CO2 emissions on a brand's fleet basis has Toyota at the top of the league, with average CO2 figures of 109.3g/km, writes Brian Byrne. But the brand needs to work on its performance to retain its lead in a changed regime in 2015.
This represents a drop of 3g/km over the previous year, and exceeds the company's target for 2015.
Seven Toyota and Lexus models come in under 100g/km of CO2, five of them under 90g/km.
Rankings from the 2011 report are based on the 65 percent lowest emitting vehicles from each manufacturer. Calculations based on 100 percent of fleet-wide emissions will come into effect in 2015.
On the 100 percent fleet calculation figures, the lowest-emitting fleet is Fiat with 118.23g/km, followed by Citroen with 125.67g/km and Toyota with 126.19g/km.
Toyota says its increasing full hybrid product line-up is a significant contributor to the company’s results.
