The Volkswagen Golf has been voted the World Car of the Year 2013.
The announcement at the New York Motor Show puts the new generation Golf, brought to Ireland at the end of last year, to yet another milestone for the iconic nameplate.
Paul Burke, Operations Manager for Volkswagen Ireland Passenger Cars said the compaany has been 'taken aback' with the demand for the car on what is a challenging year for the market here. "But it does show that many loyal customers see buying the Golf as a sound investment.”
The seventh generation model marks over 30 years since the Golf was first introduced. It won the European Car of the Year 2013 three weeks ago at the Geneva Motor Show.
The ‘World Car of the Year’ jury consists of 66 motoring journalists from 23 countries, and the Irish juror is Padraic Deane, a Roscommon based motor journalist with decades of experience in his craft.
