In the first 20 days, figures released by SIMI show 7,866 new cars registered compared to 2,236 for the same period last year.
There was also an increase in the number of new vans registered of 833 compared to 550 while 138 new trucks were registered compared to 85 for the period in 2012. Brian Cooke, Deputy Director General, SIMI says it's positive to see not only the sale of new cars well ahead of July 2012, but also commercial vehicle activity up, which is often a sign of increased business activity.
Dealers are reporting that they are continuing to see strong footfall and it appears that the many finance offers available are encouraging people to purchase their new car.
The best selling car brand is Ford and the best selling car make is the Ford Focus.
