The Garda authorities are 'not sharing' information on how much tyres condition is relevant in road crashes, writes Brian Byrne.
The claim was made at a recent presentation by Continental Tyres Ireland of a survey on tyres carried out on customers at Maxol service stations around the country.
Publisher of Tyre Trade Journal Padraic Deane said the information is currently being gathered in forensic investigations of crash scenes by An Garda. But he said the information is not being made public.
New Continental Tyres Ireland boss Tom Dennigan noted that the absence of such information is a Europe-wide matter.
RSA and Garda pronouncements on crashes routinely refer to 'speed' being a main factor.
