The 9G-TRONIC gearbox features a new control system which helps make shift changes almost impereceptible, as well as improvements to the torque convertor.
The wider spread of gears allows higher car speeds at lower engine revs, contributing to the fuel efficiency.
The new unit fits in the same space as the previous generation tranmission, and is lighter also.
