The sporty looking new Toyota Auris Touring Sports family car, launched last week, is the latest addition to the Auris family, writes Trish Whelan. Available in both diesel and hybrid powertrains, it is the first full hybrid estate in the C-segment.
The 'Sports' in the name refers to the anticipated sporty lifestyle of its owners.
Terra, Luna and HSD Hybrid grades are available.
Engines include a D-4D 1.4 90bhp and a 1.8 HSD (Hybrid Synergy Drive) 136bhp Automatic e-CVT. The 1.4 returns around 4.2 L/100km and is in tax Band A3 of €190; the 1.8 HSD returns around 4.0 L/100kms and is in Band A2 of €180.
The wagon premium over the hatchback is another €975 including roof rails and net, which is slightly lower than the segment average.
Prices for the entry level Terra 1.4 diesel are from €21,970. The Luna 1.4 is another €3,000 while the 1.8 HSD is an extra €2,465 over that mid range version.
Boot volume is a class leading 530 litres with rear seats up and includes an extra 170 litres over the current model. This equates to 2 large suitcases, 3 airplane cabin cases and one pushchair, highlighting the fact that this is a very practical and functional family car. The boot opening has been lowered by 100m making it easier to load or unload your luggage.
Driving dynamics have also been improved to give drivers a more engaging driving experience.
Seven airbags, fog lamps, a colour touch screen and rear view camera, Bluetooth, a Stop/Start system and roof rails are all standard equipment.
Competitors include the Focus Titanium 1.6d 95bhp, Astra SC 1.3d 95bhp, Megane Dynamique 1.5d 90bhp, cee'd EX 1.4 90bhp and i30 Delux 1.4d 90bhp.
