BMW considers extra i3 production
Strong early demand for BMW's i3 has prompted the German carmaker to consider bigger production of their compact electric vehicle, writes Brian Byrne.
The car goes on sale next month, and already there have been 8,000 orders for the car, which is also available with a range-extender petrol charging unit.
The €2bn investment in developing the 'i' series is based on BMW's belief that affluent urban residents in Europe, America and Asia will go for the €35,000 car.
The sporty i8 hybrid goes on sale next year, and BMW has taken out trademark protection on i1 through i9.
