The car will be an extended version of the 1 Series Gran Turismo variant of the series and will be designed to offer a premium option in a growing segment.
The new 1 Series will be the first BMW-badged car on the company's new FWD platform, which debuts early in November with the public reveal of the new third-generation Mini.
AWD options will be available on the platform, and the new generations of both cars will also include a plug-in hybrid version.
