The company has also made specification upgrades to its S80 and V70 models, and reduced the price of its flagship XC90 large SUV in advance of a new generation of that model coming next year.
The Special Edition V40s come with leather, cruise control, 16" alloys and automatic wiper and headlight activation as part of the standard package. Engines are 1.6 petrol or diesel.
The S80 and V70 are now available with Drive-E engines, with two trim levels at lower prices than before.
