Recognised the world over as the home of Hogmanay (New Year), Scotland is getting set for a series of spectacular events to welcome in Homecoming Scotland 2014, writes Trish Whelan.
Edinburgh is leading the way with its three day Hogmanay Festival coinciding with its 21st Anniversary celebrations with activity kicking off on Monday 30 December with the Torchlight Procession, which is expected to attract over 7,500 torchbearers and 20,000 participants who will join the procession winding through the city centre to the finale.
31 December sees the flagship Concert in the Gardens event with guests, the Pet Shop Boys.
Other activities include on 31 December when thousands of locals and visitors can experience the spectacular fire sculptures and large-scale light installations which will light up the night skies at Stirling, Inverness and Stonehaven as well as Edinburgh.
Homecoming Scotland themed fireworks will also be on show at Stonehaven, bringing a spectacular climax to the celebrations and the traditional hurling of the fireballs into the harbour around 00:30 on 1 January, 2014.
