Mercedes using QR codes for crash workers

From the beginning of this year, all new Mercedes-Benz cars will have QR codes on their B-pillar and beside the fuel intake, so first responders to an accident can get full details of the car involved before cutting it open, writes Brian Byrne.

The codes can also be retrofitted to Mercedes and Smart cars produced since 1990.

The company sees the system as a fast way for first responders to understand the structure and components in the car so that — with safety information and technical details just a scan away — they can more quickly rescue any occupants in a serious crash.
