Subtle external changes to the Volkswagen Polo which will be shown at the upcoming Geneva Show won't indicate the extent of major changes under the sheetmetal, writes Brian Byrne.
The cosmetics on the car, due to go on sale in the summer, include a redesigned front bumper and grille, some chrome detailing, a new rear bumper and lights.
The technology includes brand new 3- and 4-cylinder 1.0/1.2/1.4 petrol engines offering 60-150hp, and new 1.4 3-cylinder diesels of 75/90hp. Efficiency improvements of up to 21 percent are claimed.
All new Polos will be have an Automatic Post-Collision Braking System which automatically brakes the vehicle after a collision, to minimise the chance or consequences of a second impact. Options include a Driver Alert System and Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Automatic Cruise Control.
