Skiers should check their insurance

The dangers associated with skiing have hit the headlines in recent weeks with former racing driver Michael Schumacher being seriously injured skiing in Meribel in France (wearing his helmet) and German Chancellor Angela Merkel fracturing her pelvis in a skiing accident in Switzerland. Travel insurance provider Multitrip.com is reminding people to check their insurance cover as they hit the slopes this season for ski breaks.

They say individuals should always check that the policy suits their needs and covers the activities they plan to do.

Managing Director Ciaran Mulligan says, "Michael Schumacher's fall is a reminder of the risks associated with winter sports and the importance of wearing ski helmets. It's also very important to make sure you have adequate travel insurance in place if something does go wrong." He said basic things to look for include cover for Emergency Repatriation and Medical Expenses for injury or illness as well as cover for loss / damaged ski equipment.

Multitrip.com offers cover for a wide range of activities, including skiing, snow boarding, snowmobiling, and off-piste skiing except in unsafe areas.

Later this year, Multitrip.com is to consider reducing excesses on travel insurance policies for those who wear ski helmets.
