Jeep Cherokee returning to Europe

The Jeep Cherokee is coming back to Europe with a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, writes Brian Byrne.

The new generation of the compact SUV, which was launched in the US last year, will be powered over here by a 2.0 Fiat-sourced diesel, with 140hp/170hp options. The transmission will be a 9-speed automatic.

The Cherokee nameplate hasn't been sold in Europe since 2006, and the new one is built on the same Fiat-Chrysler 'US Wide' architecture as the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, and the current American models Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200.

The first Jeep Cherokee was launched in 1974.
