Nissan's new Qashqai, launched here in January, has been awarded a maximum five star safety rating from Euro NCAP, writes Trish Whelan.
The car gained 88 percent for adult occupant protection, 83 percent for child occupant, 69 percent for pedestrian, and 79 percent for safety assist features.
The model tested was the 1.5 diesel in left hand drive.
This second genertion Qashqai is a completely changed car over the original model with a much stronger design. It's also significantly lighter and offers an engine range with C02 emissions starting at 99g/km. Claimed fuel consumption is from 3.8 L/100km. Engines from launch are a 1.2 petrol as well as 1.5 and 1.6 diesels. Both manual and CVT transmissions are offered.
New Qashqai is only available as a 5-seater; 7-seat capacity will be provided by the new X-Trail.
