Ibiza FR will be COD

SEAT is introducing an FR edition of its Ibiza later in the year which will bring the VW parent group's cylinder-on-demand technology to the Spanish brand for the first time, writes Brian Byrne.

It will be in the form of a new 140hp variant of the 1.4 TSI engine, the TSI ACT, which will shut down two cylinders when the engine is operating under low load.

The system, debuted in the current generation Golf, cuts fuel consumption significantly without diminishing performance.

The new Ibiza FR with ACT will offer a 7.8sec sprint to 100km/h, and the equivalent of 60.1mpg.

Irish prices later.
