Audi extends A3 range of ultra models

Audi is adding new, more fuel efficient engines to its A3 range expanding the number of power train options available to 22, writes Trish Whelan.

They include a 1.4 TFSI petrol which can offer 4.7 L/100km (60mpg) and a C02 emissions rating of €190 (Band A3).

There's also a 1.6, 110hp diesel planned as a Saloon version which gets through 3.3 L/100km (85.6mpg) and is in Band A2 of €180.

The 1.4 petrol engine is available in combination with either a manual 6-speed transmission or a 7-speed S tronic. The power unit with cylinder on demand technology is also offered in all four body versions of the A3 car line - as a three-door, a five-door Sportback, a Saloon, and as a Cabriolet.

Audi has already launched 12 ultra models with diesel and petrol engines.
