New Soul arrives

The new generation Kia Soul has just been launched in Ireland at a starting price of €24,495, writes Brian Byrne.

With style details from the 2012 Kia Track’ster concept, the essential shape of the car has been retained. But the car has an all-new platform and a stiffer bodyshell.

The suspension has also been upgraded, and better soundproofing adds to a much more refined overall package.

Two models are initially available in Ireland — the EX at €24,495 and the Platinum at €28,495, both powered by a 128hp 1.6 diesel engine. The EX includes 17” alloys, Bluetooth, a cruise control/limiter system, and automatic climate control. A rear view camera and digital radio system completes the package.

The Platinum grade adds 18” wheels, sat nav, leather upholstery with heated front seats, electrically adjustable drivers seat, panoramic sunroof and a high end sound system.

The new car is on an all-new platform, and it's longer, wider and lower, and has an extended wheelbase compared to the old car.

The tailgate opening is now 60mm wider and there's a larger cargo area.
