Renaults fitted with anti-intrusion device

Renault Ireland is reminded their customers that their vehicles are fitted with an Anti-Intrusion Device (RAID) following a number of recent carjackings, writes Trish Whelan. This device is fitted on all new Renaults built in the last 10 years. This device is often referred to as Automatic locking when Driving.

In a statement the company says their vehicles have a system that automatically locks the doors when the car reaches 10km/h. For cars not fitted with such a system, the company recommends that drivers get into the habit of locking their doors before driving off. If a door is opened or closed, it will automatically lock again when the vehicle reaches a speed of 10km/h.

To turn the system on, with the engine running, press and hold the central locking button until you hear an audible bleep. The central locking LED light will then be on, indicating the doors are locked and RAID is activated. You can turn the system off by repeating the same process.

A word of waring though. If you decide to keep the doors locked when you are driving, remember that it may be more difficult for those assisting you to gain access to the passenger compartment in the event of an emergency. Renault customers can call into any Renault dealership for advice on the RAID system.
