Voice recognition to be satisfaction targeted

The JD Power car satisfaction surveys is to include in its questions in future the one technology which frustrates most of us, writes Brian Byrne.

That's voice recognition technology, which is as likely to give you the address of the nearest pizza restaurant as it is to pick the requested phone number from your contacts list.

And since the technology is available with almost every level of car now, the question is likely to generate some significantly negative reaction.

It's understood that the auto industry is satisfied with an 80 percent success rate in this matter. This writer is probably in the massive majority of getting a 'miss' rather than a 'hit' most of the time.

And suppose that industry 'satisfaction' related to airbags or brakes, would it be acceptable?

Bring it on, JD Power. Bring it on.
