New Focus will keep model on top

One fifth of all cars sold in Ireland since the Ford Focus model was launched in 1998 has been a Focus, writes Brian Byrne

In all, over three generations of the car, some 113,000 units have been registered to Irish motorists, according to Ciaran McMahon, Ford Ireland's Sales Director (above). He was speaking at the launch of the substantially revised Focus in Spain.

"It's our most important car, and has become part of the streetscape in Ireland," he said. "It's in a segment that represents 30 percent of all Irish car sales."

He added that with the revised model coming here at the end of November, sales of the nameplate should reach 4,500 in 2015. "That should keep us in the position where we are at the moment with the car."

He was also optimistic about a further increase in cars sales generally for the rest of this year and for 2015, suggesting that the outcome for 2014 could reach 95,000 units, substantially more than had been anticipated.

"And for 2015, we're looking at 105,000 units, or even 110,000 passenger cars."

The new Focus comes with a range of changes to body, suspension and engines which improve the car across efficiency, comfort, and safety areas.
