Volkswagen will produce its first plug-in hybrid car at this weekend's Paris Motor Show, writes Brian Byrne.
The car will be a version of the new generation Passat, which is currently on sale in a number of European markets.
Under the name Passat GTE, the new car will have a powertrain based on a 1.4 turbocharged petrol engine, with an electric motor outputting 15hp. With a total power output of 2018hp, the car is claimed to have a 50km range in electric mode.
The Passat GTE will go on sale in the second half of next year, both as a saloon and estate.
