Frugal EOLAB Concept returns 1 litre/100km (282mpg)

Renault has announced its EOLAB concept which is set to debut at the Paris Motor Show on 2 October.

This is an environmental prototype with nearly 100 technological innovations designed to deliver ultra-low fuel consumption of 1 Litre/100km (that's 282mpg) and 22g/km C02 emissions whist maintaining established B-segment levels of performance, practicality and affordability. The technological developments are designed to be introduced gradually on upcoming Renault vehicles.

To achieve such low figures, the designers focused their efforts on minimising weight (the car's mass is down 400kg), refining aerodynamics and using 'Z.E. Hybrid' technology (petrol/electricity) which permits zero emissions motoring during everyday use - for journeys of less than 60km and at speeds of up to 120km/h.

The concept previews a feasible B-segment car for within the next decade.

EOLAB forms part of the 'fuel consumption of 2 litres/100km for all' plan introduced within the framework ofFrance's so-calledNew Industrial Plan. The concept takes its name from combining the name of 'Aeolous' God and Ruler of the Winds in Greek mythology, and 'Laboratory'.
