Auto version of Impreza saves money

Buying an automatic version of the latest Subaru Impreza makes more than ease of driving sense, it'll save you money, writes Brian Byrne.

That's because though the CVT auto version and the 5-speed manual are sold here at the same price of €25,995, the automatic is more fuel efficient. Which brings the Road Tax down from €390 a year to €280 ... plus fuel savings benefits.

The new Impreza arrived here a month or so ago, and comes in one specification that includes all-wheel-drive, rear vision camera, cruise control, heated seats, bluetooth and front foglights.

Power is from a 1.6 'boxer' format petrol engine with 114hp.

"There's been a big change in the perception of the Impreza in the Irish market," says Neville Mathews of Subaru Ireland. "It's no longer the boy-racer car with the big wing and stripes, we're now attracting a much more mature buyer who values quality, and the safety of the AWD as standard."
