C-Class Estate arrives

The new estate version of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class has gone on sale in Ireland at a starting price of €39,450, writes Brian Byrne.

With the same technical specifications as the saloon, the new estate is longer, wider and has a significantly longer wheelbase to the previous model.

Rear seat passengers have more room, and the load capacity is larger, and the rear seat now splits in three rather than the previous 60/40 configuration. The rear seatbacks can be locked and unlocked by electric buttons.

Power options include five diesel and four petrol engines, the diesels starting with a 116hp 1.6 four, with €200 road tax and pricing of €39,860 plus dealer charges.

Petrol engines also start with a 1.6 four, outputting 156hp, with road tax of €270 and costing €39,450 plus charges. A hybrid variant with road tax of €180 is priced at €51,120, and there will be a €98,225 C63 AMG diesel next March.

Mercedes-Benz Ireland sales manager Ciaran Allen says he expects the estate to further lift sales of the new generation C-Class here, even if sales of estates are normally not as high here as they are in many other European markets.
