Low sun dangers highlighted

Low sun glare may have been a contributing factor to road accidents in Ireland in 2014, and warnings have been issued this week for motorists driving in such conditions to be more careful, writes Brian Byrne.

The appeal from the Road Safety Authority is accompanied by advice on keeping windscreens clean, wipers in good condition, and slowing down when dazzled by low sun either in the morning or evening commuting times.

The use of polarised sunglasses is also strongly advised.

The warnings come at a time when snowy conditions, and frozen or wet roads can further exacerbate the dazzle effect.
