Ford will be offering an 'intelligent' speed limiting system on the new generation S-MAX, due to go on sale later this year, writes Brian Byrne.
The system uses the car's traffic sign recognition in conjunction with an electronic engine management function that reduces fuel when the car is too fast in a speed limited zone.
Ford says that two-thirds of its cars last year were specified with the less sophisticated speed limiting systems currently in use.
A driver will be able to manage the different modes of the intelligent system from steering wheel controls.
