Irish car sharing company GoCar has added ten new range extender i3s to its fleet in Dublin which will be available from ten locations, writes Brian Byrne.
The vehicles have the latest generation battery system which offers a real-world range of around 200km on a charge, while the range-extender petrol engine extends total range to 332km before refuelling.
The new battery output has been achieved without any change in the system dimensions and didn't require any structural changes to the car.
GoCar is a members’ only car sharing service that allows members to rent cars and vans by the hour. The vehicles are located at convenient locations around Dublin and Cork. This is the first introduction of electric cars to the fleet.
BMW sells the i3 at a starting price of €34,440 for the version with a 160km range, and €41,470 for the smaller battery version with the range extender. Prices are €1,860 for the vehicles with the higher output battery.
