New Insignia for March debut

Opel is working out the final development of a new Insignia which will debut at Geneva next March, writes Brian Byrne.

The new car, called Insignia Grand Sport, is a little longer than the current car, but has a significantly extended wheelbase on a whole new architecture. It also has a wider track and is lower.

The new flagship from GM’s European brand will build on the success of the current Insignia, which was launched in 2008 and has sold some 900,000 units since.

Part of the development work has been to make the model lighter, in a similar way to which the Astra was, which helped that model become World Car of the Year 2016.
