This is Irish Road Safety Week

The Road Safety Authority has urged road users to get behind Irish Road Safety Week, which begins today, writes Brian Byrne.

The week has a particular focus on motorcycle safety this year. National Tyre Safety Day also happens during the week, on Wednesday 5 October.

Seminars on ‘Managing Driving for Work’ will be hosted by An Garda on Wednesday 5 October in Rochestown Park Hotel, Douglas, Co Cork, from 8.30am to 1pm; and on Thursday 6 October in the Green Isle Hotel, Naas Road, Dublin from 8.30am to 1pm. Places are limited so email drivingforwork@rsa.ie to register your space.

A National ‘Beep Beep Day’ takes place on Friday 7 October 2016, aimed at getting pre-schoolers involved in road safety.

To date, 139 people have been killed on Irish roads this year, 21 more than for the same period last year.
