Car sales down, as expected

Hyundai Tucson is top selling car.
Registrations of new cars in Ireland decreased by 10pc in 2017 compared to 2016, writes Brian Byrne.

The drop was expected as it was shown in trends through the year.

In total, 131,356 passenger cars were registered.

Light commercial vehicle registrations were down 14.2pc, and HGVs dropped by 9.4pc.

Used car imports increased by 29.5pc to 93,454, while used light commercials were up by 21.3pc.

The top five car brands were Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford, Hyundai and Nissan. The five top car models were Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Golf, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Octavia and Ford Focus.
