New plug-in hybrid diesel versions of the C-Class and E-Class will go on sale in first European markets in the late summer, writes Brian Byrne.
Shown in pre-production versions at Geneva this week, the third-generation hybrid technology in these models will follow that already in the S-Class 560e which offers CO2 emissions as low as 49g/km.
The new cars will use a 9-speed hybrid transmission 9G-tronic.
A new 'intelligent' home charging wallbox will also be available from the company with the new vehicles.
And two battery-electric models from smart are the first series-produced vehicles of the Mercedes-Benz Cars EQ family. They include the release of a new app to control various functions, and a 22 kW on‑board charger with fast charging function.
