Toyota to stop selling diesel cars in Europe

Toyota is to stop selling diesel passenger cars in Europe by the end of this year, writes Brian Byrne.

The company will continue to offer diesel for its Land Cruiser, Hilux and Proace vehicles.

The move is the culmination of a project to phase out diesel cars in favour of the company's petrol-electric hybrid vehicles.

The new Auris debuting at Geneva today (above) will not have a diesel engine, but instead will have 2.0 and 1.8 hybrid engine options as well as straight petrol.
