Mercedes-Benz has started production of its electric large van, the eSprinter, writes Brian Byrne.
The van is being produced at the company's Dusseldorf plant, where it has been building vans since 1962.
The company has made the plant the competence centre for electric drives and to date over 2,400 employees have been trained for handling and assembling the high-voltage technologies.
The eSprinter will be available with two battery options, to provide ranges of 115kms and 168kms. With a suitable charging system, 80pc of the battery charge can be replenished within 30 minutes.
