Since the model made its debut in 2007, Volkswagen has increased annual production from 120,000 to just shy of 911,000 units.
Last year, a brand new Tiguan rolled off the production line every 35 seconds in one of Volkswagen's factories in Germany, Russia, China and Mexico. It is available to buy in 80pc of all countries on earth. It is one of the three most popular sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in the world.
Here in Ireland, Tiguan was best-selling Volkswagen model in 2019 with 3,201 units sold, outselling Golf for the first time. It was the fourth most popular model here in 2019 with 2.73pc market share and it made up 23.7pc of Volkswagen sales in Ireland.
The brand is preparing to launch the next chapter of the Tiguan success story with a major technical and visual update this year. One of the highlights will be a new additional variant with a plug-in hybrid drive (PHEV) for Europe.
Available in three trim lines, Tiguan is priced from €31,450 in Ireland. It is powered by a 1.5 TSI 130hp (petrol) engine and a 2.0 TDI 150hp diesel engine.
