Kia reveals first dedicated electric model, adopts EV naming

Kia has revealed details of its new EV6 electric Crossover, due to go on sale later in the year, writes Brian Byrne. It is the first car from the brand to be built on a dedicated electric car platform, which it shares with the recently-announced Hyundai Ioniq 5. The company's cars on the platform will all be called EV, with a model number suffix.

Exact European specifications are not available, but in global terms the EV6 will have choices from 58kWh or 77.4kWh batteries, with options of rear- or all-wheel drive. Power output ranges from 167hp-321hp. A GT version will offer 577hp.

By the end of 2026, Kia will have 11 EVs in its model range, seven based on this new platform.
