Mitsubishi partially reverses total Europe exit

Revised Eclipse Cross.

Mitsubishi Motors is to have two models based on Renault vehicles go on sale in Europe in 2023, writes Brian Byrne.

The 'sister' models will be built on Renault assembly lines and will be sold along with the Japanese-built Eclipse Cross PHEV in selected European markets.

Mitsubishi had planned to leave the European market completely this year, but the turnaround is believed to have been under pressure from Renault, which partially owns Mitsubishi. However, it is unlikely that the three models will be available in RHD Europe markets, so plans to wind up Mitsubishi's presence in the UK and Ireland are expected to continue.

Mitsubishi announced a freeze on new cars development for Europe last year.
