Born to be a Cupra: sporty brand's latest model premieres

The Spanish sporty brand Cupra has just premiered its first electric car, the Born, writes Brian Byrne.

Available with two power outputs up to 231hp, the Born will be on sale with up to 540km range. A recharge time of 5pc-80pc in 35 minutes is possible with a suitable 125kW charging point. A 6.6s 0-100km/h is possible with the smaller battery version, and a 7s sprint with the larger unit.

Cupra is a spin-off standalone brand from Spanish carmaker SEAT, and its first dedicated model, the Formentor PHEV, has recently gone on sale in Ireland. The Born is built on the Volkswagen Group's dedicated electric MEB modular platform.
